Focal Point

Privacy Policy

Overview

Focal Point (“the App”) is a Shopify application that lets merchants set a custom focal point for how their product images crop on their storefront. This policy explains what data the App collects, why, and how it's handled.

What data we collect

From merchants (store owners) who install the App:

  • Your focal point selections — stored as a Shopify product metafield (focalpoint.coordinates) directly on your own Shopify store. This is Shopify-owned data; we do not hold a separate copy as the source of truth.
  • A small operational index — to make the App's product search/filtering fast, we keep a lightweight copy of product titles, handles, and image counts in our own database. This is purely a performance cache, not a data warehouse — it contains no data beyond what's already visible in your Shopify admin.
  • Session/authentication tokens — required to connect to your store via Shopify's API, encrypted at rest.
  • Basic usage events — e.g. when the App is first activated, when you hit a plan limit, when you click “Upgrade.” Used only to understand product usage, not sold or shared.
  • Theme compatibility diagnostics — if your theme can't fully support a custom crop on certain images, we log which images/pages are affected so the App can show you a helpful warning, instead of failing silently.

From your customers (shoppers on your storefront): none.

The App does not collect, store, or process any personal information about your store's customers or visitors. It only reads and displays your product images according to the crop settings you configure.

Third-party services

We use Sentry (sentry.io) for error monitoring — if the App encounters a technical error, a report is sent to Sentry to help us fix it. These reports may include technical details (e.g. which shop encountered the error) but never customer/shopper data.

Data retention

All data described above is tied to your store's installation of the App. Uninstalling the App deletes all of it — your session data, our operational index, diagnostic logs, and usage events are all removed. Your actual product images and any focal point settings already saved to Shopify's metafields remain on your store (since those are your data, on your store, not ours) unless you separately remove them.

Your rights

Since the App does not collect shopper/customer personal data, there is no customer data to request or delete. If you (the merchant) want your own account/installation data deleted, simply uninstall the App, or contact us at support@squarebuz.com to request removal sooner.
